I Don’t Write About Politics

Two Men in Tuxedos Fighting in a Bar

My experience with politics has not been a very pleasant one. It is fair to say that politics can really get to people. Some people get hostile even, picking fights for reasons we may not even know.

When I was a student at the university, I liked going to a nearby coffee shop and do some cramming on my studies before actually starting my first class at 8:00 a.m. One of those days, I was innocently thrown into a political discussion when 2 elderly men walked in the café. Well, everything, at first, was pleasant until the 2 men started talking about politics.

To make a long story short, I was minding my own business when 2 men beside me started debating about the upcoming election. This was back in the day, I must say, in 2004. As you can see, it has been that long ago. I graduated Film School in 2007. Wow! 11 years ago. I can’t believe it myself. Time just goes by so quick.

The 2 men, I thought, were friends. Maybe, but not when it came to politics. These guys were heated up. Perhaps, friends can just get competitive sometimes. I just had no clue or does talking about politics make you sound like the bad guy either way you put it? You can’t choose both ways. And, when you have to choose sides, the other side makes you the bad guy.

Just too much drama for me.

It is moments like those that make me just want to play some jams.
